Manual Handling

Manual handling injuries can occur wherever people are at work, on farms and building sites, in factories, offices or warehouses, in hospitals and laboratories or whilst making deliveries.

Awkward postures and existing weaknesses caused by previous injuries are all risk factors implicated in the development of muscular and skeletal disorders (MSD's). An estimated 12.3 million working days are lost as a result of MSD's each year.

Prevention and Control

Risk assessments must be carried out by employers in order to identify workplace hazards. Once identified, effective training is essential to control the risk and prevent injury.
