February 2008 ‘Driving Standards Higher’
Welcome to the Crosshands Training Ltd Newsletter
Driver CPC
'Centre Accredited'
We are the first Accredited Centre in South Wales to deliver the new Driver CPC. Driver CPC is for PCV (10th September 2008) and LGV (10th September 2009) drivers who drive professionally throughout the UK. It is being developed as a requirement of the EU Directive 2003/59. The Initial qualification must be achieved by new LGV and PCV drivers along with their vocational licence acquisition. Periodic training, which involves all professional drivers, will have to be undertaken every 5 years. This involves 35 hours of training and can be done in yearly blocks of 7 hour sessions. What is the purpose of the DCPC Periodic Training? It is being designed to improve the knowledge of professional LGV and PCV drivers throughout their working life including:
Road Safety Safe Loading and Restraint Practice To keep the professional driver up to date with the current laws Reduce fuel consumption and vehicle wear and tear. How can Crosshands Training Ltd help? Here at Crosshands Training we are the first Centre in South Wales to be accredited to deliver the DCPC. We know that as companies you may not find the time to be able to keep up with this new Law. We can start you off now by setting up Databases to enable you to forecast when your drivers will need training. Please contact us for further information on Tel: 012689 842164.
Young Drivers Scheme We can now offer training as part of The Young Driver Scheme – Foundation Modern Apprenticeship. The scheme provides the opportunity for a young person to obtain a full Category C driving licence at the age of 18 rather than 21 and a Category C+E licence before his or her 21st birthday.
Registered young drivers follow a structured training programme leading to a Level 2 NVQ in “Driving Goods Vehicles”. In addition their LGV driving skills are regularly assessed.
There are several stages to this training the first being that the young person is recruited/selected by their company and then registered onto the scheme.
For further information please look at the Young Drivers Scheme Page on our website or contact us on Tel: 01269 842164. We continue to provide our existing range of courses LGV Class 1 & 2, PCV, Minibus and HIAB.
Forklift
Our Forklift Centre is now NPORS Accredited and we also run RTITB Forklift Courses and RTITB Instructor Courses. If you prefer we are able to carry out Forklift Training inhouse on your premises. For further information please contact us on Tel: 01269 842164.
Land Space available to Rent
We have land space to rent that is available now. This would be ideal for parking etc. Please contact us on Tel: 01269 842164 to discuss your needs.
Digital Tachograph
The compulsory fitting of Digital Tachographs to new vehicles came into force on 1st May 2006. All refitting of tachograph heads will also now be digital.
Are you ready for it?
Who does it affect?
In short anyone who drives or works with LGV’s and PCV’s will encounter a digital Tachograph sooner or later (including all new hire vehicles). Contact us on Tel: 01269 842164 if you require your staff to be trained in the field of digital Tachograph including the new regulations of driving times.
Courses As RTITB accredited training providers we offer a comprehensive range of transport and industrial training courses. As you would expect, all vocational driving courses are delivered by qualified instructors to DSA LGV register standards. We have an 'Assessment' system where all applicants for LGV & PCV driver training are assessed 'on road' to identify existing skill levels in order to ascertain the amount of training required. This allows us to customise courses to fit the needs of the individual trainee and to ensure the best value for money for our customers. The Assessment costs £20 and the cost is then deducted from the Course Fee.
We hope that this Newsletter has been of interest to you and if you require any further information please contact us on Tel: 01269 842164 or email us at enquiries@crosshandstraining.com
